Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are preparing to return to Britain with Archie and Lilibet, marking a major change six years after the family built a new life in California.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving back to the U.K. later this month with their two children, according to Reuters. A source close to the couple confirmed that Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, will relocate from California for an extended period and begin school in Britain in September.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to live in a private, non-royal residence rather than return to a royal property. The move also does not signal a return to official duties, with Harry and Meghan set to remain non-working members of the royal family under the arrangement established when they stepped away in 2020.

The decision brings the Sussex family back to Britain after six years based in the United States. Harry and Meghan settled in California after leaving their roles as senior working royals, later pursuing independent media, charitable and business projects while raising Archie and Lilibet away from the day-to-day royal spotlight.

The return follows a recent family visit to Britain that included time with King Charles III. The monarch reportedly learned of the couple’s relocation plans on Sunday and is said to welcome the opportunity to have his younger son and grandchildren closer, although Buckingham Palace and Harry’s spokesperson have not publicly commented on the move.

Harry’s relationship with his father has shown signs of improving after years of tension, while his relationship with Prince William remains strained. The Duke has also repeatedly spoken about security concerns surrounding visits to Britain, an issue that had complicated his ability to bring Meghan and their children to the country in recent years.

The relocation represents a striking new chapter for Harry and Meghan, who have spent much of the period since their royal exit establishing an independent life in the United States. With Archie and Lilibet set to attend school in Britain, the family’s return appears designed to be more substantial than a short visit even as they retain their non-working royal status.
