Denver-based duo pdtj. is redefining the creative journey for busy parents and dreamers alike. Comprised of Allison, a classically trained pianist, and Brandon, a self-taught guitarist with a love for experimentation, pdtj. brings an electrifying fusion of synthpop and dreampop to the Colorado music scene.
“We’re not chasing perfection,” Brandon shares. “We’re just making something real, something that reflects where we are in life right now.”
A Musical Beginning from Uncertainty
For Allison and Brandon, the story of pdtj. began amidst unexpected circumstances. After the company where they worked went bankrupt earlier this year, the duo found themselves with time to explore their shared love for music.
“We started playing together during those final months of work,” Brandon recalls. “It was low-key at first, but then we started writing our own material, and it grew from there.”
Blending Diverse Backgrounds
What sets pdtj. apart is the unique blend of their musical histories. Allison’s extensive classical piano training, including time in the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, contrasts with Brandon’s self-taught guitar skills from his college rock band days.
“We have different approaches,” Allison explains, “but our shared taste in music brings everything together. We balance each other out—I keep things grounded, and Brandon pushes the boundaries.”
Their combined artistry shines in their latest single, “Just a Man,” released on October 22. The track showcases their signature style: ethereal synths, emotionally charged lyrics, and an undercurrent of raw authenticity.
Balancing Music, Family, and Life
As parents juggling careers and creative passions, pdtj. understands the challenges of pursuing artistic dreams while raising a family.
“Life has a way of filling up with everything but your passions,” Brandon admits. “But even a late-night jam session or an unfinished track is a step forward. It’s about finding those small pockets of time and making them count.”
Brandon’s home studio comes with its own quirks—namely, three dogs whose barks occasionally find their way into recordings. “Sometimes I turn them into percussion one-shots just for fun,” he jokes.
Looking Ahead
With three singles already streaming on platforms like Spotify, pdtj. is gearing up for the release of their debut EP. Their goal? To grow within the Denver music scene and connect with an audience that values authenticity over perfection.
“This is a passion project,” Allison says. “We’re not in it for fame; we’re in it to create something meaningful.”
A Message to Creatives Everywhere
Through their music, pdtj. aims to inspire others to pursue their passions—no matter how busy or out of practice they may feel.
“Do I wish I’d stuck with music after my college band? Sure,” Brandon reflects. “But we’re doing it now, and it feels amazing. It’s never too late to pour your heart into something creative.”
