Summer Grays sent a direct message to Mark Zuckerberg, told him she was going to build her own app, and then spent three years doing exactly that.
That app is My Butler AL, and if you’re finding her name for the first time, start with the part almost every write-up has gotten wrong.
The AL is not AI
This matters more than it sounds, so let’s clear it now.
The AL in My Butler AL is a name. It’s Alfred — the butler. Attentive, prepared, three steps ahead, handling things before you knew to ask. It is not an acronym, and it is not artificial intelligence.
Grays has been blunt about the distinction: AL is a name, not an acronym. She isn’t building an assistant that sits there waiting for commands. She’s building a butler.
That’s a product philosophy, not branding cute. An assistant reacts. A butler anticipates. Everything on the platform flows from that difference, and half the coverage out there has been filing her under an AI story she never told.
Why she built it
The origin isn’t a pitch deck. It’s frustration.
During COVID and the Black Lives Matter period, Grays kept getting suspended for saying what she thought. Facebook. Twitter. All of it. After the last one, she was angry enough to write to Zuckerberg directly. Her message was roughly: forget you — I’m going to get my own app.
Then came the unsexy part. The first full year was research: reading what people actually complained about. Lost accounts. Buried reach. Shadow bans nobody would confirm. Algorithms that decide, without explanation, that the 100,000 followers you spent a decade building will only see a fraction of what you post — unless you pay.
Her position on that is short. She doesn’t do shadow banning. Verification on her platform is cheap. Advertising is cheap. The point is putting leverage back in the hands of the people generating the value.
What’s actually under the hood
My Butler AL launched in March 2026 and is built on three pillars: user-based content curation, decentralized data ownership, and immersive visual experiences.
In plain terms — community decides what surfaces instead of a black-box feed, your data belongs to you and travels with you, and the interface is built to look like something made in this decade rather than 2011.
There are still rules, which is the part critics skip. You can’t get on there talking about killing people or blowing things up; that gets flagged. What Grays is trying to eliminate is the murky middle, where disagreeing with someone is treated the same as endangering them.
She didn’t come from tech
Here’s the context that makes the whole thing make sense: Grays is a healthcare operator.
She’s the founder and CEO of Mercy Angels Hospice, a Medicare-certified, JCAHO-accredited hospice serving central Indiana — 110 team members. She also owns a primary care center and a med spa in Indianapolis, plus LA Hospice and Home Health.
That’s not a fun fact. It’s the reason the product looks the way it does. Hospice work is the business of anticipating what someone needs before they can articulate it, in the worst week of their life, with no margin for getting it wrong. Building software that behaves like a butler is a shorter jump from that than it looks.
Fifteen-plus years of operating experience, two active markets in Los Angeles and Indianapolis, and a category almost nobody else occupies — wellness and consumer technology, held by the same hand.
The rest of the empire
Grays is also on Indy Bosses, the entrepreneurship-focused reality series directed by Yandy Smith and Kim Osorio, where she’s a cast member and co-executive producer. My Butler AL had its public launch at the season finale event in Los Angeles this past March, hosted by Blac Chyna alongside Princess Love, Yandy Smith, Amina Buddafly and Quad Webb.
At BET Awards Weekend she sponsored and judged a $25,000 startup competition, then ran interviews at BET Media House with EBONY, ESSENCE and Onsite!
She’s said the expansion isn’t finished — more technology projects she won’t name yet, physical hospice locations, and a durable medical equipment company on the medical side.
So who is Summer Grays?
A healthcare executive who got tired of being told what she could say, built the alternative, and is now running it from two coasts at once.
