From the Marine Corps to the Mic: GH0USTLYSAVAGE Is Building a Legacy in LA’s Rap Scene

Phillip Devon Reed Jr., better known by his artist name GH0USTLYSAVAGE, isn’t following a typical path—and he’s not trying to. A rapper and artist from Los Angeles, California, he’s carving out space in the industry with a sound that blends freestyle grit and melodic finesse. But what really sets him apart isn’t just the music—it’s the story behind it.

Before he ever picked up a mic, GH0USTLYSAVAGE spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. That time gave him the discipline, resilience, and focus that now fuels his grind in one of the most competitive music cities in the world. After leaving the military, he turned to music as an outlet—a way to make sense of his experience and start fresh. What began in 2019 as self-exploration quickly turned into a mission to grow, evolve, and be heard.

“I got into the music industry because it became my outlet after leaving the Marine Corps,” he says. “Music gave me a way to process my experiences, connect with others, and chase a dream I’d always had.”

That dream is coming to life. In just a few years, GH0USTLYSAVAGE has racked up thousands of streams, building an organic following that connects with his mix of nostalgia and modern energy. His tracks balance introspective lyrics and catchy hooks, always delivered with freestyle flow that feels raw and real. From melodic anthems to high-energy bangers, his catalog speaks to where he’s been—and where he’s headed.

It hasn’t been easy. Transitioning from the structure of military life into the chaos of the music world came with challenges: learning production, figuring out self-promotion, navigating doubt. And he’s done it all independently, with no label or big machine behind him.

But the work ethic that got him through the Marines is the same drive that’s pushing him forward now. “Self-doubt crept in at times, but I overcame it by staying consistent, experimenting with my style, and trusting the process,” he says.

Now, GH0USTLYSAVAGE is gearing up for his biggest project yet: a 26-track album dropping March 6, 2025. The project showcases the full range of his artistry—from smooth, melodic cuts to adrenaline-packed freestyles. No major features yet, but that’s intentional. He’s focused on proving himself, one track at a time.

“I want my music to leave a mark—something nostalgic yet timeless,” he says. And he’s not just talking about numbers. He wants to build a community, perform on bigger stages, and inspire others—especially veterans and late starters—to believe in reinvention.

In a scene that often prioritizes image over story, GH0USTLYSAVAGE brings both. His brand is built on authenticity, hustle, and a refusal to be boxed in. He’s not just a rapper from LA—he’s a voice shaped by real experience, pushing forward with purpose.
