When you hear Harold Levert’s music, it’s clear he isn’t just singing songs; he’s telling stories—stories that come straight from the heart. Since 2020, Harold has been using his music as an outlet for raw emotion, crafting songs that reflect love, pain, and resilience. His latest single, “Bullet Proof,” captures the essence of these experiences but brings a new, upbeat energy to the table.
“Bullet Proof” showcases Harold’s willingness to step outside his comfort zone and experiment with sound. Produced with Kami, the track blends Harold’s signature emotional depth with an infectious, rhythmic vibe. It’s upbeat and catchy, yet it’s layered with the depth that fans have come to expect from him. “I always wanna challenge myself and I’m always looking for different sounds,” Harold says. In “Bullet Proof,” he succeeds in doing just that, offering listeners a song that’s both fun and meaningful.
What makes “Bullet Proof” particularly special is its clever dual meaning. “Love… it can move mountains… and also, it’s about a woman on birth control,” Harold shares, adding a playful twist to the song’s message. The track discusses love’s powerful, protective force while giving a nod to real-life dynamics in relationships. It’s a creative blend that sets Harold apart, showing his ability to balance profound emotion with light-hearted humor.
The inspiration behind “Bullet Proof” is deeply personal. Harold’s own journey in love—especially over the past two years with his girlfriend—has brought a new sense of warmth and openness to his music. He describes it as entering the “lover boy” phase of his life, and “Bullet Proof” is a direct reflection of that chapter. It’s a celebration of love’s strength and how it can make you feel invincible.
So far, the song has been met with positive feedback, with fans praising its vibe and Harold’s signature authenticity. This enthusiastic response has fueled his excitement for what’s next, including his upcoming album, From the Heart. “Bullet Proof” serves as an excellent preview of the emotional depth and musical range fans can expect from his future work.
The UrbanSound team got to sit down with Harold and dive deep into his journey as an artist, the story behind “Bullet Proof,” and what’s next for him. Here’s what he had to say:
1. Can you tell us about your journey as an artist and what themes or experiences have shaped your music over the years?
“I’ve been making music since May of 2020 and I can honestly say music for me has been an outlet for my emotions. Most of my songs come from the heart, meaning they carry real heartbreak and losses. My love life has played a major role in my creative process, or should I say my many failed attempts at one, lol. But with that, you can hear the growth as a person and as an artist in my music.”
2. You’ve mentioned feeling more in-tuned with yourself than ever before. What specific changes or realizations have influenced your creative process for your latest project, Wish Me Luck?
“I wouldn’t even say that they were changes, it’s honestly just life, man. Every day you wake up a little bit smarter than you were yesterday due to just experiencing life. You learn that just living your life is the best thing for your creative process because you can find inspiration in your day-to-day activities. These moments are what make songs relatable because we are all living life one day at a time.”
3. In your own words, what does it mean to ‘leave it all on the mic,’ and how does that philosophy come through in your music?
“To me, this term means expressing yourself to the fullest. As people, we all have emotions and feel different ways each day, but as an artist, when you’re in that booth or writing, leaving it all on the mic is you getting out everything you’ve been feeling and all your experiences.”
4. How has collaborating with Thrudalenz and your live performance experience impacted your upcoming music and your overall artistic vision?
“That experience made me value myself and my artistry even more than I did before. I stopped rushing to work with people who don’t believe in me as an artist. It made me want to do more, which I actually have planned in the near future. Visuals really make a difference in how a song is digested, so I make sure my visuals are always on point.”
5. Looking back on your career, what role has self-reflection played in your evolution as an artist, and how do you see yourself moving forward with your upcoming projects?
“Self-reflection is everything. I always say, ‘You gotta be real with yourself before you can be real with anybody else.’ It’s allowed me to sit back and see my growth as an artist firsthand. Some people look for relatability in music, and by being real with who I am and where I’ve come from—good or bad—I’m able to relate to fans who are going through hard times. Moving forward, I want to keep getting deeper and deeper by being transparent with my fans.”
6. Your unreleased single ‘Bullet Proof’ seems to carry a powerful message. Can you share what inspired this song and the emotions you wanted to convey through it?
“Love, man. Love is powerful; it can move mountains. Something that people might not put together is that the song also refers to a woman on birth control, lol. That’s where the ‘bulletproof’ double meaning comes from—suggesting that the love we have is almost indestructible and also referencing how I can be confident in our love, even in tough situations. I wanted the song to reflect both the emotional power of love and the playful side of it.”
7. How does ‘Bullet Proof’ differ from your previous work in terms of sound, lyrics, or the overall vibe you’re creating in this new phase of your career?
“‘Bullet Proof’ was kind of an experiment that me and Kami, the producer, worked on during a session. I’m always looking for different sounds and challenging myself, so this song reflects that. It keeps my vibes going but in a more upbeat way than most of my songs. I wanted the lyrics to mean more by saying less, which I think I accomplished in this song.”
8. What personal experiences or challenges influenced the creation of ‘Bullet Proof’? Is there a story or turning point that shaped the song’s direction?
“I guess you could say finding love influenced the creation of the song. I’ve been with my girlfriend for almost two years, and even though the love was unexpected, it was powerful right from the start.”
9. How have your fans reacted to ‘Bullet Proof’ so far, and how does their response shape how you approach releasing future singles or projects?
“So far, the fans love it. I’ve received a lot of great feedback from them, with most people saying the song is a vibe all around.”
10. As you work on your upcoming album, A Better Life, where does ‘Bullet Proof’ fit within the larger narrative of the music you’re creating? Does it represent a certain chapter or theme in your journey?
“I actually shifted gears and am now focusing on putting out an album called From the Heart, which I’ve been waiting to release for over a year. ‘Bullet Proof’ is there to showcase some of my range as an artist, and it represents the ‘lover boy’ chapter of my life that started when I met my girlfriend a couple of years ago. I love that woman, man.”
