Zedicus’ ‘At Sea’: Reggae With a Global Soul

Zedicus’ single, At Sea, is a stirring blend of roots reggae, ska, and soul that delivers a heartfelt plea for peace. Available now on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms, the track draws from a wide well of lived experience. Born in Ethiopia and shaped by life across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and North America, Zedicus channels that perspective into music that’s as reflective as it is urgent. “It’s about the world’s struggles, and societies’ failures to learn from past experiences. I feel in a sense that we are unmoored, thus still at sea” he says—and the song captures that with every beat.

Musically, At Sea pairs a vibrant ska rhythm with jazz-kissed harmonies and reggae’s signature heartbeat. It’s a sound that feels both grounded and expansive, nodding to legends like Bob Marley and British reggae giant Steel Pulse. As an added bonus, Selwyn Brown of Steel Pulse plays the piano and organ on this song. The result is a song that moves—sonically and emotionally. “I want it to feel immersive,” Zedicus explains, encouraging listeners to throw on headphones and hear every layered detail.

Behind the scenes, At Sea is a deeply personal creation. Zedicus wrote, and produced the track himself, basically a one-man studio effort that captures both his vision and determination. “It’s mostly me in the studio,” he says with a smile. But the polish is real—the crispness of the mix and the richness of the arrangement speak to hours of careful craftsmanship. It’s not just a song; it’s a statement.

That statement comes into even sharper focus in the lyric video, which lays bare the message: disinformation, division, conflict —none of it should feel normal. At Sea doesn’t preach, but it doesn’t pull punches either. “The lyrics carry the message,” Zedicus says, and he’s right—they demand attention, and they stay with you. Past collaborations with acts like SOJA proved his strength in creating globally resonant music; At Sea builds on that legacy.

Live, Zedicus’ message hits even harder. Backed by his band Abyssinia Roots—a globe-spanning lineup from Ethiopia, Eritrea, India, Italy, Trinidad and the U.S.—he brings At Sea and his broader catalog to life. Their recent performances at venues like The Hamilton in Washington, D.C. have built a growing community of listeners drawn to his blend of sound and substance. “It’s about connection,” he says—and it shows.

As for what’s next, Zedicus is already deep in the process of creating new singles. “I want to keep sharing stories that matter,” he says, and that mission drives every track. With plans to expand his reach through touring and more visuals, he’s building momentum on his own terms. At Sea belongs on roots reggae, conscious ska, or world music playlists that aren’t afraid to feel—and think.

“Thank you to everyone who’s listening and supporting,” Zedicus says in closing. His work is a reminder that music can still mean something—that it can challenge, comfort, and unite. Stream At Sea on Spotify, Bandcamp, or wherever you listen, and follow Zedicus as he continues his journey of turning truth into rhythm, one powerful release at a time.
