Inspired by the annual Lion’s Gate portal — the astrological moment when the universe practically begs you to set your intentions — the track was first written in 2022 over SpellSpellSpell’s “I Wanna” and reimagined by producer Mike Brown (The Art of Letting Go Podcast) into something that feels like a victory lap and a vision board rolled into one.

“Lion’s Gate (Freestyle)” arrived July 31 as part of YawnyBlew’s 2025 streak — a self-imposed challenge to release a new track every month. The first half of the year carried the energy of his earlier projects (DREAMBIIG, Midnight in Brooklyn), but May’s “The Fear (Demo)” and now “Lion’s Gate (Freestyle)” signal a turning point. Instrumental and acapella versions drop August 13.
“I’ve been working on my sophomore album for three years between other projects for sync and my A&R work,” says YawnyBlew. “It’s part singer/songwriter, part mixtape, and rooted in growth and realignment. ‘Lion’s Gate (Freestyle)’ feels like exactly where I’m heading next sonically. I paired it with ‘The Fear (Demo)’ because together they’re the clearest screenshot of who I’m becoming as an artist.”
Born from weekly writing sessions, podcast banter, and the kind of life moments you can’t plan, the track captures a new balance of confidence and vulnerability. “Rapping was always where I let off the most swagger,” he says. “Now I’m letting it be a space for honesty, too.”
