Just under eighteen months following the release of her debut album, ‘WITHIN THE CONFINES OF YOU’, VALERIE announces a brand new short film, amplifying the project’s artistry and bringing the music’s innate visual story to life.
In an immersive experience, VALERIE recognises the importance of cinematography in art with the short film ‘WITHIN THE CONFINES OF YOU: The Visual Odyssey’, which complements the sonic superiority of her debut effort. For the release, she collaborated with Colombian filmmaker Nicolás Casanova whose 2017 documentary El Culebro: La historia de mi papá remains one of the most popular features in Colombia.
‘WITHIN THE CONFINES OF YOU’ sees VALERIE push the creative boundaries of contemporary music and film-making. Seamlessly entwining the two art forms together, the visual experience is a dynamic exploration of self-discovery.
Releasing The Visual Odyssey on April 3rd, 2025, VALERIE explains, “I was trapped in the places first. The album is simply where I described them using my words and my voice. Now, I get to show you. From the early days, I knew that WITHIN THE CONFINES OF YOU needed to be a visual record. I even wrote out the story of the album for myself in narrative form before recording, kind of like a short story. In doing so, I hoped to keep the soundscapes accountable to my goal of bringing the conflicts, characters, and settings that drive the record to life. These videos have been in the works since the summer of 2023 when I partnered with filmmaker Nicolás Casanova to see the vision through.”
VALERIE’s debut album remains a dynamic body of work a year on. The airwaves are laced with dark-pop sensibilities and foreboding undertones that give the soundtrack an alluring quality. Alongside this, it keeps a heady, pop sentiment—an emphatic collection of songs, brimming with catchy hooks and quick refrains.
VALERIE is an indie singer-songwriter from Miami, Florida. She became enthralled with music at a young age and has drawn inspiration from many iconic artists, from Grimes to Taylor Swift to Fleetwood Mac. Debuting in 2023 with ‘1945’, she has continued to push the boundaries of modern music whilst defying conventions with her experimental approach to art. Fuelled by a lack of formal musical training, she feels her art is bound by its convention-defying nature, a by-product allowing her to experiment lusciously with sound and narrative.
