In the digital age, it’s easy to get caught up in the numbers game. Artists and their teams often focus on inflating streams, followers, and engagement to create the illusion of success. But is this strategy truly effective?
Rolling Hype Magazine: Tony DeYoung, thanks for sharing your insights with us. You’ve been vocal about the importance of legitimate success in the music industry. Can you elaborate on why inflated results don’t necessarily translate to real success?
Tony DeYoung: Inflated streams and followers might look impressive on paper, but they don’t necessarily mean anything if they’re not translating to real-world success. If an artist isn’t charting on radio stations, topping the Billboard charts, or selling out shows, all those inflated numbers don’t mean much.
Rolling Hype Magazine: That’s a great point. What do you think is the biggest misconception about buying views or followers?
Tony DeYoung: People think that buying views or followers will make them look bigger or more successful, but it’s just an illusion. Anyone can buy views or run ads to inflate their results, but that doesn’t mean they’re actually building a loyal fanbase.
Rolling Hype Magazine: So, what do you think is more important for artists: having a large following or having a dedicated fanbase?
Tony DeYoung: Having a dedicated fanbase is far more important. If an artist has a loyal following that shows up for them, buys their merchandise, and attends their shows, that’s what truly matters. Inflated numbers don’t mean anything if they’re not translating to real-world support.
Rolling Hype Magazine: What advice would you give to artists who are tempted to inflate their results?
Tony DeYoung: Focus on building a real fanbase through legitimate means. Invest in creating high-quality music, engaging with your audience, and promoting your brand authentically. Don’t rely on shortcuts or gimmicks to try to inflate your success.
Rolling Hype Magazine: Last question: what do you think is the key to achieving real success in the music industry?
Tony DeYoung: The key to success is building a loyal fanbase through hard work, dedication, and authenticity. It’s about creating music that resonates with people and building a brand that people can trust and support.
With Tony DeYoung’s insights in mind, it’s clear that real success in the music industry requires more than just inflated numbers. It’s about building a loyal fanbase and creating music that truly resonates with people.
