Hailing from Huntsville, Alabama, Dariel Mayfield, better known by his stage name sptmbr, is making waves with his latest release, “Overseas Dripp”. Released on September 24, 2024, this track combines sptmbr’s raw lyricism with a unique sound that’s quickly catching attention—not only in the U.S. but internationally, particularly in Brazil.
The creation of “Overseas Dripp” was nothing short of organic. sptmbr recalls, “The process behind this record wasn’t anything spectacular. Ace loaded up the beats, and I heard the guitar and was like, ‘damn, that’s wavy.’ I caught the vibe and a flow… it was wraps from there!”
Inspired by the buzz around the YSL trial involving Young Thug and Gunna, “Overseas Dripp” is a nod to the drip wave Young Thug helped pioneer. “Young Thug is one of my biggest inspirations,” sptmbr shares. “With him being gone, I feel like we missed out on a lot of great music from him and that whole wave. I used it as inspiration when I went in the booth.”
What’s remarkable is how quickly “Overseas Dripp” came to life. sptmbr wrote the song in less than an hour and finished it within two days. “It’s becoming one of my most popular songs,” he says.
The production of the track was handled by Fyugo, a rising producer who has collaborated with esteem figures such as Money Man. The mixing was entrusted to Record63ʼs Jay Addison and Sergio Cortez. Then mastered by none other than Emerson Mancini, known for his work with icons such as Kendrick Lamar and Lizzo.
While “Overseas Dripp” has its roots in Southern rap, its impact is crossing borders. The track has gained traction in Brazil, and sptmbr has his sights set on performing it there one day. “The idea of performing this song in Brazil is something I truly desire. It’s amazing to see how far music can travel and connect with people from different cultures,” he says.
When it comes to future projects, sptmbr dreams big. “My dream feature right now would have to be with an artist/producer like T-Pain or Pharrell,” he reveals. “I really want to work with the greats, tune my ears, and just learn as much as I can about the craft.”
If you’re a fan of artists like Young Thug, Gunna, Roddy Ricch, Drake, Juice WRLD, or A Boogie wit da Hoodie, “Overseas Dripp” is a track you’ll want on your playlist. Its blend of melodic rap and smooth production delivers a vibe reminiscent of these modern icons while still maintaining sptmbr’s unique artistry.
With “Overseas Dripp” steadily gaining momentum, 2025 promises to be a big year for sptmbr. He’s already working on new music and building on the success of his latest release. “I’m just focused on growing, learning, and delivering more music that connects with people all over the world,” he says.
