Skarlett Smith Opens Up About ‘Roar’ and Her Journey as an Artist

We had the chance to sit down with Skarlett Smith, the rising dance-pop powerhouse whose music is quickly turning heads across the industry. With her bold new single “Roar”, Skarlett isn’t just making music—she’s making a statement. Energetic, fearless, and unapologetically herself, she shares her journey of self-expression, artistic experimentation, and the freedom that fuels her sound. From the vibrant choreography in her music videos to her collaboration with Grammy-winning producer DeMario “RioTheyNeedahit” Bridges, every move Skarlett makes feels intentional, personal, and undeniably magnetic.

In this exclusive conversation, Skarlett opens up about the inspiration behind “Roar”, her growth as an independent artist, and how she balances bold experimentation with staying true to her artistry. Fans and newcomers alike get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative mind of an artist on the rise, offering a taste of what’s to come as she continues to push boundaries and carve her own path in the pop world.

Q1. Your new single “Roar” is already making waves. What moment or feeling in your life inspired the sound and message behind this energetic dance-pop track?

This song was inspired by the choice I believe everybody has to face; either allowing Skars to hold you back or learning to let them free you. Roar is all about the choice of freeing yourself.

Q2. The music video for “Roar” is bold, colorful, and full of movement. What story or emotion were you trying to convey visually, and how did the concept come together?

Each dancer in the official Roar music video was able to choose their own personal choreography – which was amazing since the ultimate objective was to represent the freedom of being ourselves and the beauty of being different from one another.

Q3. You’ve now worked multiple times with two-time Grammy-winning producer DeMario “RioTheyNeedahit” Bridges. How has this partnership shaped your evolution as an artist?

One of the many remarkable traits of RioTheyNeedAHit is the amount of knowledge he has AND is willing to share. There are many knowledgeable people who would rather keep their experiences to themselves – and Rio is the direct opposite. Hence why working with him has helped me learn, grow, and trust the process more than ever before!

4. You’re a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, which sets you apart in today’s pop landscape. How did your musicianship influence the production or writing process for “Roar”?

The guitar is my everything but I love the power of a solid growl. My appreciation combined with a lack of judgement for sound is a piece of me that Roar captures. Most of the sessions of writing Roar with Rio were full of bold and experimental processes that really shaped the final sound.

Q5. Your previous singles “Love Bomb” and “2077” landed on several Spotify playlists, helping fuel your rise. How have those early wins influenced how you approached your third single?

Capturing the evolution of Skars through each song has been deeply fascinating. Love Bomb establishes an emotional foundation, 2077 dives into tension between healing and hurting, and Roar embodies what Skars have the potential of becoming. Third time is a charm and I’m super excited to share what comes next!

Q6. As an independent artist gaining the attention of major labels, what has been the most exciting or eye-opening part of navigating this new stage of your career?

I have been collaborating with more fellow creatives in this stage of my career. This has really opened my eyes to the impact & responsibility we all have to the world—especially since we have the privilege of being able to create.

Q7. Looking at your growth over the past year, what personal or artistic breakthrough are you most proud of as you release “Roar”?

There was a point in my life where I couldn’t comfortably express how I truly felt. Roar reminds me of how far I’ve come in being able to do just that and how contagious it can be.

Q8. Your visuals, branding, and sound continue to evolve with each release. How do you balance experimentation with staying true to who you are as an artist?

Staying true to my artistry heavily relies on experimentation. There’s so much music, so many Skars, and ideas Rio and I think of. Being able to freely flow through these in the creative process effortlessly bridges the gap.

Q9. Fans are already wondering what’s next. What can we expect from Skarlett Smith in 2026—more singles, a debut EP or album, new collaborations, or even a tour?

2026 has many surprises in store! Sooner than you think since time flies while having fun.

Q10. If you could describe the next phase of your journey in one word, what would it be—and why does that word best capture where you’re heading next?

Intriguing. For both the Skars and I. We are going to experience together what we haven’t just yet and I look forward to it!

From heartfelt personal breakthroughs to infectious dance-pop energy, Skarlett Smith proves with “Roar” that she’s an artist unafraid to embrace her full creative spectrum. Her fearless approach to music, visuals, and storytelling captures the essence of freedom, individuality, and evolution, leaving fans excited for every next step in her journey.

As Skarlett teases what’s to come in 2026—more singles, possible collaborations, and surprises that keep audiences guessing—one thing is clear: she’s just getting started. With a sound that’s uniquely hers and a vision that keeps expanding, Skarlett Smith is a name that will continue to roar across the music scene for years to come.
