For some, music is a pastime. For SavaSkii, it’s survival. The Nigerian independent artist, sound engineer, and founder of MAYAMI RECORD doesn’t just create songs—he carves out pieces of his soul, turning personal struggles into raw, unfiltered sound. His latest project, Dark Days EP, isn’t just an album. It’s proof that even in the darkest moments, music can be a lifeline.
A Journey Forged in Struggle
Music wasn’t just a passion for SavaSkii—it was a refuge. Growing up, life was a constant battle, and the music industry presented its own obstacles. But instead of breaking under the weight of adversity, he turned to sound as his sanctuary.
“In 2022, I hit my lowest point,” he shares. “I was broke, depressed, and barely holding on. I couldn’t even afford a data subscription to promote my music.” Alone in his struggles, he withdrew from the world. But rather than let the darkness consume him, he poured every ounce of his pain into his craft. Dark Days EP was born from that storm.
Unlike many artists, SavaSkii doesn’t rely on anyone else to shape his sound—he records, mixes, and masters his music himself. That hands-on approach ensures that every track carries his unfiltered truth, setting him apart in an industry often driven by polished, commercialized hits.
The Sound of Survival
SavaSkii’s music is a blend of Afrobeats and alternative influences, but at its core, it’s deeply human. Each song in Dark Days EP tells a story—of self-doubt, heartbreak, perseverance, and hope.
“People assume Dark Days is just about pain,” he says. “But it’s about getting through it. It’s for anyone who’s felt lost and needed a reminder that better days are coming.”
Through MAYAMI RECORD, his independent label, he’s not just creating music; he’s building a movement. “I want a space where independent artists can tell their stories without compromise.”
Breaking Barriers, Building Dreams
The road hasn’t been easy. Independent artists face financial hurdles, industry gatekeepers, and the struggle for visibility. But SavaSkii keeps pushing forward. He’s collaborated with artists like Jarzboy, vOw, and Berry Tana, proving that talent and persistence can carve out a space in the industry—even without a major label’s backing.
The release of Dark Days EP on February 21, 2025, marks a turning point. It’s not just another project—it’s a declaration. “This EP proves that even when everything seems lost, you can create something meaningful.”
The Road Ahead
SavaSkii envisions a future where MAYAMI RECORD becomes a home for independent artists who refuse to fit into the industry mold. He dreams of taking his music to global stages, collaborating with international artists, and using his sound to heal, inspire, and uplift.
With Dark Days EP, he’s doing more than making music—he’s giving a voice to struggles that often go unheard. He’s proving that no matter how dark the days get, there’s always a way forward.
