For years, Russ X held onto songs that never made it past the rehearsal room. Some sat untouched for fifteen to twenty years, written in moments that mattered but never given the chance to be heard. That weight built over time. Eventually, he made a decision that changed everything. He stopped waiting for the right band, the right timing, or the right opportunity. He took control and started releasing the music himself.
His journey into music began early, shaped by a home filled with instruments and curiosity. He started with violin through the Suzuki method, moved into brass during his school years, and found his place when he picked up the bass at thirteen. That shift grounded him. Playing in bands gave him a sense of direction, but it also showed him how easily good songs can be left behind when circumstances do not align.
What sets Russ X apart is not just his sound, but his perspective. His music blends hard rock, southern rock, and outlaw country, moving naturally between heavier tones and stripped down moments. As a bass player, he draws inspiration from Jaco Pastorius, focusing on groove and feel rather than just structure. As a songwriter, he looks to Willie Nelson for the ability to tell honest, lasting stories.

His debut solo album, My Pain, released in December 2025, brings those years of writing into focus. The project is personal, with songs dedicated to his wife and son, alongside tracks that reflect the struggles he carried over time. These are not songs written for trends or quick attention. They come from lived experience, shaped over years before finally being recorded.
Taking on the entire process himself became both a challenge and a breakthrough. Recording, releasing, and promoting the music meant stepping into roles he once relied on others for. It forced growth, but it also proved that he no longer needed to wait for the right situation. He could build it on his own.
Now, his focus is shifting toward live performance. After years of creating in isolation, he is working to connect with other musicians and bring these songs to the stage. What started as a personal decision to release long held music is evolving into something more immediate and shared.
Russ X spent years holding onto songs that mattered. Now that they are finally out in the world, they are not waiting on anyone anymore.
