JoeyEaz

Interview by Rolling Hype Magazine

Rolling Hype: Joey, let’s rewind to the start. How did you first find your voice back at Riverdale Academy?

JoeyEaz: Growing up in the Bronx is like living in a nonstop mixtape—block parties, music echoing out of windows, rhymes on street corners. At Riverdale Academy, I figured out I could take that energy and make it mine. Those school talent shows? That was my first real stage. I wasn’t just spitting rhymes—I was figuring out who I was and realizing my words could hit people deep. That early support is still my fuel today.

Rolling Hype: You’ve got roots in both the Bronx and Washington Heights. How did moving between those boroughs shape your sound?

JoeyEaz: The Bronx gave me the grit—the raw, unfiltered core of hip-hop. Washington Heights brought me flavor—Dominican pride, reggaeton beats, the soul you hear in every block party uptown. Switching between those worlds made me fearless about blending sounds. I’ve never wanted to live inside one genre.

Rolling Hype: You move between Hip-Hop, Pop, Reggaeton, and even Techno with ease. What drives that versatility?

JoeyEaz: I follow the emotion first. Every genre has its own heartbeat. If I’m feeling nostalgic, that’s when I lean on pop. If I want the room moving, I’ll reach for reggaeton or techno. Hip-hop will always be my truth, my home base. I just let the vibe guide me and trust it.

Rolling Hype: Fans say your music feels like you’re speaking directly to them. Is that something you plan for?

JoeyEaz: Absolutely. I’m not here just to flex—I’m here to connect. I know the grind when no one believes in you, I know the feeling of hope, I know struggle firsthand. When I write, I picture that one person who needs to hear what I’m saying. If they feel understood, I’ve done my job.

Rolling Hype: You’ve played everything from intimate open mics to packed venues. How has performing shaped your artistry?

JoeyEaz: The stage is where the music comes alive. Whether it’s a tiny spot in Brooklyn or a sold-out room in the Bronx, the energy is electric. Seeing people dance, sing, cry—that’s the real reward. It keeps me pushing.

Rolling Hype: Walk us through a typical studio session for you.

JoeyEaz: I start with the emotion. Whatever I’m feeling—hype, heartbreak, inspiration—I freestyle first to catch that spark, then I go back and lock in the bars. I’m big on storytelling, but the delivery has to hit you in the chest. Every line has to matter.

Rolling Hype: Social media’s clearly a big part of your journey. What’s your approach?

JoeyEaz: I treat my socials like a running mixtape. Every post—whether it’s a freestyle, a raw studio clip, or a sneak peek of unreleased tracks—serves a purpose. People can smell fake a mile away, so I keep it real. What you see online is just another stage for me.

Rolling Hype: What’s something fans might be surprised to learn?

JoeyEaz: [Laughs] I’m a melody guy at heart. I can sing, I harmonize, I dabble in production, and I’ve written for pop acts, rappers, even EDM DJs. I like to have my hands in every part of the process—not just the verses.

Rolling Hype: Where do you see yourself five years down the line?

JoeyEaz: On world tours, inspiring kids from the same blocks I came up on. I want to launch a label that puts Dominican and Latino talent in the spotlight. But most of all, I just want to keep making music that means something.

Rolling Hype: Any last words for your supporters?

JoeyEaz: Thank you for every stream, every comment, every time you show up. This is just the beginning. We’re building something global—one song at a time. And we just locked in a major distribution deal with Roc Nation Distribution through Tony DeYoung Entertainment.
