Hailing from Ondo State, Nigeria, OJESSY’s musical journey began in 2005, inspired by the late Nigerian rap icon Dagrin. Over nearly two decades, he has cultivated a distinctive style he dubs Afro Trap, a bold fusion of Trap Naija’s raw edge with introspective, smooth lyrical narratives. Influenced by global heavyweights like Future, Travis Scott, Gunna, and Lil Baby, alongside his Nigerian roots, OJESSY has developed a sound that is both innovative and deeply personal.

For years, OJESSY meticulously honed his craft in private, writing songs daily and recording in his personal studio. It wasn’t until a life-changing moment late last year that he felt compelled to share his creations with the world. In his own words

“I’ve been writing songs every single day of my life, pouring my thoughts, emotions, and experiences into music, but I never shared any of it with the world. For years, my work lived only in my notebooks and in the walls of my personal studio, equipped with all the tools I need to bring my ideas to life. Recently, an event in my life sparked a deeper drive to finally put my music out there. It made me realise that my songs could resonate with others, inspire, or simply connect with people in ways I hadn’t imagined. After years of perfecting my craft and refining my sound, I’ve decided it’s time to release my work and let the world hear the music I’ve been creating every day.”

OJESSY’s vision is complemented by collaborations with acclaimed producers including Cheeky Chizzy, Psycho Beat, Xtra Pro, and Del B, ensuring that each track on New Pope is both sonically rich and meticulously crafted.
