- Reese, how does Can’t Deny represent where you are in your music career right now?
Can’t Deny represents me growing as an artist. This is the first song where all the lyrics have been written by me. I am beginning to develop my own sound and style, it’s exciting.
- What was the process like for blending pop and island elements together in this song?
Once I heard the beat it was easy. It felt like the beat was made for me. My producer made this beat a while ago and could not find someone to write to it. With my background and pop style it was a great match.
- Vulnerability is a big theme in Can’t Deny. How has embracing vulnerability impacted your growth as an artist?
I think one must be brave enough to be vulnerable to grow, especially as an artist. To be authentic and share oneself with the world helps to create a real connection. In this aspect, I feel like I am getting better with opening up to people around me and sharing my voice.
- Were there any particular challenges you faced while creating this song?
The biggest challenge was getting the mix correct to represent the words and music in the most fun and natural way.
- As an artist known for high-energy performances, how do you keep that energy alive in a slower, heartfelt track?
Emotionally connecting with my audience in the slower songs I sing is the best way to keep the energy alive during a live performance. It is a different type of energy, me as the artist helps the fan connect with feelings within themselves. They give it back to me by feeling those emotions and it helps me to perform even better.
- How does the theme of self-confidence appear in the song?
I think the theme of self-confidence is in the message. She wants to know what her love interest is all about… what he is made of. Can he handle being with her. Is he the kind of person worth her time.
- With your new series with LOVE XO Studios set for 2025, what new layers can fans expect from you as an actress?
I am so excited for this new series with Love XO. I can’t say what it is about, just that it is something different and fun! I am doing a lot more on camera work now. I usually work mostly in voice over. I am excited to be working on set and have a lot of new opportunities happening right now.
- What’s one of the most memorable experiences you’ve had while working on LOL House of Surprises?
I have been blessed to play MC Swag now for 4 Seasons on LOL House of Surprises. It is a role I treasure. One of the best experiences is seeing my “doll”. I love that I am the MC Swag Doll.
- Do you think fans of your acting will see a new side of you in Can’t Deny?
I do think fans of my acting will see a new side of me with Can’t Deny and my singing in general. I have grown a lot, and my music is starting to reflect that. I am starting to write about more mature topics. As an actor, I will play younger roles a lot so it will be different for my acting fans to see me older.
- What would you say to young artists who look up to you and want to pursue a career in both music and acting?
The first thing I always say is… “Don’t do it unless you love it” There is a lot of sacrifice to one’s personal life choosing an artist’s career path. Sometimes things can really be a bummer. YET… If you DO love it… then NEVER GIVE UP. Stay with it. Your time will come.
