After teasing a string of music with the gritty single ‘Dark City’ late last year, MC Nelson returns, bringing a fresh new energy with new offering ‘Every Goodbye’. As a listener, the track instantly draws you in with a rich sample akin to the chipmunk soul pioneered in the 2000s. The nostalgic feeling continues with the single’s punchy drum beat, Nelson arriving with a high-energy vocal delivery and boundless confidence. Throughout the number, he brings a smooth flow with themes of a lost relationship laced in his lyricism. ‘Every Goodbye’ is energising, modern despite its noughties homage and injects a positive smile with each listen.
Elaborating on the track, MC Nelson shares:
“Despite the amazing reaction I had to Dark City, hundreds of thousands of streams somehow some rappers I grew up on reached out to me. I had some very notable detractors, first and foremost my mum and aunties who did not like the content and aggression of the song. I wrote Every Goodbye for them so the song has a lot of references to my family in it. ”
MC Nelson has spent many years developing his craft, creating a buzz in the UK underground rap scene along the way. His debut mixtape ‘Anglosfear’ received airplay on BBC Radio and coverage from esteemed publications Noisey, the Guardian and Wordplay.
After undertaking his first UK tour with Punch Records, Nelson went on to at events and festivals across Europe, sharing the stage with rap royalty such as Ghostface Killah, KRS ONE, Slum Village, The Pharcyde, De La Soul, Open Mike Eagle and R.A.P. Ferreira.
In November 2022, the self-titled EP of Black Borough was released, a project which sees MC Nelson become part of a musical collective. Now, the artist looks ahead to his debut album ‘Dark City’, set for release later this year.
