MIAMI, Fla. — Miami-born and Broward-raised rapper JMC Baby Goat (real name Joshua Michael Carrero) is emerging as a powerful voice in South Florida’s independent music scene. His new single, “Raising Kanan Type Beat Freestyle,” now streaming on all major platforms, captures the hunger, confidence, and honesty that define his sound and his story.
A 2020 high school graduate and former basketball MVP at McFatter Technical College, Carrero blends his athletic discipline with lyrical ambition. Inspired by artists like Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi Vert, XXXTentacion, Kodak Black, and Eminem, JMC Baby Goat credits SoundCloud’s 2016 wave as the spark that led him to start releasing music.
“This all started with me recording and posting songs at 14,” Carrero said. “But I knew if I really wanted to make it, I had to commit. I asked myself—what if I just never give up? How far could I actually go?”
That persistence has paid off. In 2021, his single “Ice Cream” earned over 80,000 streams on SoundCloud. In 2023, “Want Yu” reached more than 13,000 Spotify streams, solidifying his presence beyond the platform where he got his start.
So far in 2025, JMC Baby Goat has released 24 songs and co-headlined a major show with fellow artist Cartier. In August, he’s slated to share the stage with Famous Uno—further proof that his reach is expanding.
His forthcoming solo album, Is It Just Me, is currently in development. A deeply personal project, it marks his first full-length studio release, with no features.
“My music is rooted in emotion, in real life,” he said. “Some tracks are for fun, some are raw pain, some are about South Florida pride—but all of it comes from the heart. I’m not here to chase trends or beg for attention. I’m here to speak my truth.”
While he’s had to navigate challenges—including the death of a childhood friend and a lack of family support—Carrero continues to push forward, using platforms like TikTok, where he’s amassed over 40,000 followers, to promote his music and connect with fans.
In addition to music, he’s pursuing elite physical training for the upcoming Hunter Exam competition in New York on October 11, a high-intensity event similar to American Ninja Warrior. His long-term aspirations include acting in shows like BMF, Power, and The Boys, and voice acting in anime.
“I want to sell out arenas, star in shows, and use my platform to fight hunger and homelessness,” he said. “My dream isn’t just fame—it’s impact.”
Carrero’s current single, “Raising Kanan Type Beat Freestyle”, is a preview of what’s to come. Gritty, confident, and unapologetically honest, the track sets the tone for Is It Just Me and affirms JMC Baby Goat’s place in a new generation of artists building without a blueprint.
