The dim glow of LED strips pulses in time with the modular synths as Luke Schlup—better known as GHOSTWAVE—fine-tunes a thunderous bass drop in his studio. A veteran musician who’s shared stages with Chevelle and Avenged Sevenfold as part of the touring rock band Montia, Schlup has spent two decades mastering every facet of music. Now, as GHOSTWAVE, he’s channeling that expertise into a bold new EDM persona, merging the raw energy of rock with the precision of progressive techno.
GHOSTWAVE’s sound is a high-octane fusion of dancefloor-ready beats and rock’s rebellious spirit—think Swedish House Mafia meets Nine Inch Nails. His upcoming single “Afterlife” (due early summer) exemplifies this hybrid approach: sawtooth synths slice through four-on-the-floor kicks, while subtle guitar textures linger like ghosts in the mix. “EDM clicked for me because it’s limitless,” he says. “You’re not just playing notes—you’re engineering emotions.”
The transition from rock to EDM wasn’t without its challenges. Despite his technical prowess, Schlup found self-promotion in the digital age to be his steepest hurdle. “In a rock band, you win fans one mosh pit at a time,” he laughs. “Electronic music demands a different hustle.” His solution? Launching Rockpoint Records in 2023—a DIY platform to cultivate his vision without compromise.
GHOSTWAVE’s evolution is a testament to his discipline. “Progress isn’t about breakthroughs,” he notes. “It’s about showing up daily.” That grind is paying off: his productions grow more sophisticated with each release, and his live-show preparations (hinted at via cryptic social teases) promise to blend live instrumentation with immersive EDM spectacle.
GHOSTWAVE isn’t just crossing genres—he’s erasing their borders. Follow his metamorphosis @GHOSTWAVEMUSIC.
