Coming out of Carteret, New Jersey, a new voice is starting to make some serious noise in the hip hop scene. FOB Lawan did not always plan on being a rapper. Like many great artists, his journey started by accident during late night sessions with his friends. Back in 2022, he was just having fun and flowing over beats with his circle. Lawan says he saw the freedom that was possible in the music.
During those early days, his friends were the ones who saw his potential first. He remembers them telling him that he was the best one in the group and that he should really start rapping for real. That push from his homies was all he needed to finally hop in the booth and take things seriously. His sound is a gritty mix of trap and drill that feels raw and authentic. It is clear that he draws a lot of energy from heavy hitters like NBA Youngboy and Big Scarr.
You can hear those influences in the way he handles a beat. He brings a certain intensity to his tracks that reflects his Jersey roots while keeping an eye on the bigger sounds coming out of the south. Since he started just two years ago, Lawan has been moving fast. He already released an EP titled Injustice which served as a solid introduction to his style. He is also hitting the road to build his fan base.
He has already performed in major cities like Atlanta, Miami, and Brooklyn. For a relatively new artist, he is showing a lot of hustle by getting out of his hometown and onto stages where people can see his energy in person. One of his most powerful memories on stage happened when he realized people were actually listening.
He says it was a shock to see people he never met before singing his lyrics back to him. He admits he was not even a big artist at the time, especially two years ago. He says he almost stopped dead in his tracks because he was so surprised, but he knew he had to keep the show going. That moment proved that his music was reaching people far beyond his own neighborhood.
Right now, Lawan is staying busy in the studio. He says he is working on new projects every single week to keep his momentum alive. While he is keeping the specific release dates a secret for now, he promises that more music is on the way soon.
