Philadelphia-based dancehall superstar Flippa Moggela, widely known as “The Flossing King”, graced the stage recently at the annual Wavment event in Philadelphia, where he received an award and was named a Dancehall Cultural Icon. In their speech, the promoters of Wavment stated that Flippa Moggela deserved this honour now and that it was long overdue.
Giving him his flowers before it’s too late, Wavment made the acknowledgement of Flippa Moggela as a Dancehall Cultural Icon and awarded him for his outstanding contributions in Jamaica’s dancehall music industry. Flippa Moggela, born Andrew Davis on October 31st in Kingston, Jamaica has also given back to his community, the innercity of Waterhouse, on several occasions.
Known for flaunting his lavish lifestyle in the media and at his performances, The Flossing King is a generous philanthropist, hosting kids’ treats in Jamaica twice and a charitable thanksgiving dinner for the less fortunate at his sister’s restaurant in Philadelphia since being released from a New Jersey prison in October 2022 after serving 9 out of 17 years on drug-related charges. Flippa Moggela has truly rehabilitated himself, staying focused on putting out great music, making a honest living and continuing to create a greater impact on and off the stage.
All this, he hopes, will be encapsulated in an autobiography Flippa Moggela intends to put together in what might very well be a 3-part memoir before the end of 2025. The versatile entertainer is also an actor who played a memorable role in the classic Jamaican film Shottas, starring Dancehall legend Spragga Benz, Reggae royalty Kymani Marley and prominent Jamaican actor Paul Campbell. Flippa Moggela is a dancehall staple based on his longevity so far, a true and well-deserved Dancehall Cultural Icon.
Fans cheered Flippa Moggela on in agreement after receiving his award and sang along to all his songs during his thrilling performance. The Wavment: One Summer, One People, One Wave event held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 16th, had Flippa Moggela share the stage with the “Law Boss” himself, Chronic Law, drawing crowds from all over the state to see Chronic Law perform in Philadelphia for the first time.
The Flossing King also managed to secure a collaboration with the Law Boss, a track which will be co-produced by Flippa Moggela himself on his Flip Money Records label and VX Records. It will be on the rhythm compilation album Mix Feelings Riddim, due for release no later than October. The project will also feature Jahmiel and other top dancehall acts.
Flippa Moggela is preparing too for his highly anticipated annual birthday extravaganza appropriately dubbed Flossing Never Stop. This year’s edition will be a black tie event on Saturday, November 1st at a venue in Philadelphia to be announced as the date approaches.
