From the serene, icy shores of Kotlik, Alaska, to the vibrant hustle of Anchorage, Mr. Prince’s journey has been anything but ordinary. Growing up between these two worlds, he constantly found himself searching for where he truly belonged. This blend of isolation and movement, of raw wilderness and urban pulse, laid the foundation for his music—a style as unique as the landscapes he calls home.
At 17, Mr. Prince began recording, drawn to the underground music scene that exploded in the early 2000s. “I was obsessed with mixtapes,” he recalls. “I listened to artists like Drake, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd—before they became household names. I didn’t even know what most of them looked like; I just knew their sound.” As he watched these artists rise from obscurity to global fame, he couldn’t help but wonder: Why not me?
But Alaska is a world away from the bustling centers of the music industry, and making a name for yourself as a recording artist in such an isolated place can feel like an uphill battle. “I’ve felt left behind at times,” Mr. Prince admits. “But that also gave me time to create, to perfect my sound without feeling the pressure to conform.”
His music is a reflection of the many worlds he straddles—part introspective, part high-energy, yet always deeply personal. It’s a style that feels simultaneously familiar and fresh, blending elements from different genres while remaining unmistakably his own. “There’s not many artists coming out of Alaska, at least not like me,” he says. “I feel like I have to do this—there’s no good reason not to.”
The release of his single Chartreuse showcased this distinct approach. A dreamy yet gritty track, it hints at the complexity of his journey—the tension of hope and hardship woven into every beat. And the momentum isn’t stopping there. His most recent single Protection, promises a hard-hitting rap showcase that further proves his versatility. Beyond that, hyperpop-inspired tracks like Sugar, Spice, and Lies are already generating buzz.
For Mr. Prince, music is more than just a passion—it’s a lifeline. He’s seen firsthand how struggles can shape you, how the darkness can carve out spaces for the light to shine through. “We all go through hard times,” he reflects. “But in those struggles, there’s always a glimmer of hope.”
As Mr. Prince continues to release new music, his ultimate goal remains clear: to reach listeners across the world, to inspire those going through their own hardships, and to put Alaska on the map in a way that hasn’t been done before.
