In an era where social media reigns supreme, it’s easier than ever for individuals to pose as industry experts, promising aspiring artists the world. However, Tony DeYoung, founder of Tony DeYoung Entertainment, knows firsthand the dangers of trusting these self-proclaimed gurus. With a career spanning appearances on Dr. Phil and a permanent presence on the Oprah Winfrey Network, DeYoung is speaking out against the culture vultures misleading independent artists.
Rolling Hype: Tony, thanks for sharing your story with us today. What prompted you to speak out against these individuals claiming to be industry experts?
Tony DeYoung: I’ve been in this industry for a while now, and I’ve seen so many talented artists get taken advantage of by people who promise the world but deliver nothing. I’ve been guilty of trusting these individuals myself, and it held me back for years. I’m talking about people who claim to have connections with major players like Dr. Phil, Oprah Winfrey, or DJ Silk from
Aftermath Entertainment. They promise to get you featured on these platforms, but they have no real connections or results to back up their claims.
Rolling Hype: That must have been frustrating and disheartening. How did you eventually break free from these false promises, and what did you learn from the experience?
Tony DeYoung: It took me a while to realize that these individuals were just culture vultures, preying on aspiring artists’ desperation and naivety. I learned that if someone is making grand promises but can’t deliver any real results or proof of their connections, it’s likely a scam. I started doing my own research, looking for people who had actual results and a proven track record in the industry. That’s when I started to make real progress and get featured on major platforms like Dr. Phil and the Oprah Winfrey Network.
Rolling Hype: That’s a valuable lesson for any aspiring artist. What advice would you give to independent artists who are looking to navigate the industry and avoid these culture vultures?
Tony DeYoung: First and foremost, do your research. If someone is claiming to be an industry expert or promising to get you featured on major platforms, look them up on Google. If they’re not showing up on Google, that’s a major red flag. Check their social media, look for real results and testimonials from other artists. Don’t just take their word for it. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek out multiple opinions.
Rolling Hype: It’s amazing how much of a difference a simple Google search can make. What do you think is driving this culture of false promises and misinformation in the music industry?
Tony DeYoung: I think it’s a combination of factors. Social media has made it easier than ever for people to pose as experts and build a following. Additionally, the music industry is incredibly competitive, and aspiring artists are often desperate for any opportunity to get ahead. These culture vultures prey on that desperation, promising the world and delivering nothing.
Rolling Hype: It’s clear that you’re passionate about warning independent artists about these dangers. What’s next for Tony DeYoung Entertainment, and how do you plan to continue supporting and empowering aspiring artists?
Tony DeYoung: We’re committed to providing real support and resources to independent artists. We’re building a community of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to helping each other succeed. We’ll be offering workshops, mentorship programs, and other initiatives to help artists navigate the industry and avoid the pitfalls of false promises and misinformation. Our goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where artists can thrive and reach their full potential.
As our conversation comes to a close, it’s clear that Tony DeYoung is on a mission to protect and empower independent artists. With his experience and expertise, he’s uniquely positioned to offer guidance and support to those navigating the often-treacherous music industry. As the landscape continues to evolve, one thing is certain: Tony DeYoung will be a beacon of hope and authenticity for aspiring artists everywhere.
