What first got you into music?
Playing around at Grove Park elementary school. We had the chance to put on a lil talent show before we took the ITBS test. I wrote some rhymes and found out it was something I was good at. You ever tried something new and get praised from EVERYBODY? it opened up a door I didn’t know needed to be opened. That door has been opened ever since.
Who inspired you to make music?
My peers always hyped me up frfr. But before my brother passed in 05, I found out he did music a lil bit. He let us listen to some songs he recorded and my eyes lit up. He passed maybe a yr later from a car accident.. and I refused to let that dream die. R.I.P phat.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
The music I create is all about my life. My experiences. The things I’ve gone through. It’s real. I use to write just to rhyme. Nothing made sense lol. I found a way to write about my life and not make it so depressing lol. I rap with a lil singing in the mix… what genre would that be?
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
It’s crazy because people never hear me bring up this artist at all, but I’d like to collab with T.I.
He’s always been fye with his words but listen to how he has grown! His sound, his word play, him representing Bankhead man our song would be live OMM.
If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
With so many artist I admire and respect, it’s hard to keep singling artist out. I’d open up for quite a few people if given the opportunity, especial female artist! If you are a female artist, I’d open up for you any day! And that has NOTHING to do with my sexual orientation.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
Whatever you want to do in this world, it is achievable. The most important thing that I’ve found, that perhaps you could use, is be passionate and enthusiastic in the direction that you choose in life, and you’ll be a winner.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
The internet has changed the way we consume music. From online streaming, no longer needing cds or carrying round a CD player lol to allowing an artist to upload their own music to streaming services without a publishing deal. I think it’s a good thing. Allowing upcoming artist to be discovered easily. Making music more accessible to everyone. Being able to listen and connect to your favorite artist online is one of the best things the internet could’ve done for artist.
Which famous musicians do you admire?
I admire Lauryn Hill. A couple quotes from an interview she did sums up why. “I sacrificed the quality of my life to help people experience something that had been unreachable before then” “However, when you effectively create something powerful enough to move the bulls#t out of the way, all kinds of forces and energies may not like that. They may seek to corrupt and discourage, to disrupt and distract, to divide, and sabotage…but we bore witness to the fact that this happened — a young, black woman through hip-hop culture, a legacy of soul, Spirit and an appreciation for education and educating others communicated love and timeless and necessary messages to the world.” Her words are power in itself. I listened and I understand.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Wooo Chile how can I narrow this down.. “The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.” I had to become the realist in my journey. I’d be the person to sit and wait for the rain to stop, rather than grabbing a coat and an umbrella!
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Get back to backing musicians with talent that show promise. Remove the trend chasing. It’s an over saturation of people doing this to become famous. They don’t care about making music, it’s just a quick route to become famous for some. You have beat makers all chasing the latest trap trend making the same boring ass beats, and artists wanting to sound like their favorite rapper rather than developing their own sound.
What’s next for you?
I plan to keep making music because I know it’s touching the hearts of at least 5 people. I can’t let those 5 people down, I refuse! Where will my music take me? I’m not sure. I guess we will find out soon!
