For most people, chasing a dream usually comes with a list of sacrifices. For DSUN, that list is long—but the passion? Even longer.
A singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based out of San Diego, DSUN is the kind of artist who builds worlds from the ground up. Not in a flashy studio surrounded by label execs and assistants—but in the quiet hours after a long shift as a line cook. He clocks out, heads home, and gets to work—not because he has to, but because music has always been his lifeline.
From Acoustic Harmonies to Genre-Blending Mastery
DSUN’s musical journey started at 15, when he formed his first band, Dylyzma, an acoustic quartet focused on rich vocal harmonies and stripped-down storytelling. It was all about feeling—raw, real, and human.
“I’ve always written songs to process what I’m feeling,” he says. “Joy, pain, isolation—it’s all in there. Music has been my way of staying grounded, especially when I felt like I didn’t fit in anywhere else.”
Over the years, bands came and went. So DSUN took the reins—learning to play every instrument, mastering vocal harmony without the crutch of autotune, and diving deep into production, composition, arranging, and even cover art. The result? A DIY powerhouse capable of creating full-fledged musical experiences entirely solo.
And he doesn’t just dabble in genres—he demolishes their walls.
His growing discography slides between hard rock, heavy metal, new age, punk, pop, acoustic, Latin, and now a bold new fusion: EDM meets folk. Think warm acoustic guitar riffs wrapped around hypnotic synths and electronic beats. It sounds unusual—until you hear it. Then it just makes sense.
The 52-Song Challenge
What do you do when the world feels like it’s holding you down? For DSUN, the answer was simple: create.
“I was only planning to write a few songs,” he admits. “Then I thought—what if I pushed myself? What if I dropped a new song every single week for a year?”
At the time of this article, he’s just three tracks away from hitting that 52-song goal—a marathon of creativity, discipline, and heart. And he didn’t stop at audio. For the first 16 tracks, DSUN taught himself video editing and released full music videos to match. Because if you’re going to tell a story, you may as well show the whole world.
Music as Survival, Not Just Success
Behind the tracks, behind the harmonies and hooks, DSUN’s story is one of resilience. He raised a child on his own while putting himself through culinary school. He’s spent years balancing his time between kitchens and keyboards. He’s faced financial struggles, the isolation many indie artists know all too well—and kept going.
“Most musicians I know struggle with poverty. We create through the struggle because it’s how we cope. Hearing my music come to life makes the hard times worth it,” he says.
DSUN doesn’t make music to chase fame. He makes it to survive it all—and in doing so, creates something that resonates on a deeper level.
Big Dreams, Real Roots
The goal? It’s simple: a top 10 hit. Maybe a sync deal or two—his songs in a movie, a killer TV scene, or even an anime. (He’s a huge fan of the Fallout franchise and has even written lore-inspired tracks based on the game and its recent TV adaptation.)
But beneath those dreams lies something even stronger: the belief that music can be a path forward for anyone, no matter their circumstance.
“You don’t need a label or a million-dollar studio,” DSUN says. “You just need heart, grit, and a little hope. I want to prove indie artists can create music that stands the test of time.”
