Hailing from Berlin, Double Major shows no signs of slowing down as he looks to follow up the release of his summery disco anthem ‘NO’, from earlier in the year. Back with an emphatic, synth-fuelled anthem, the Pakistan-born creative shines with his latest single ‘NNLJ’, taken from his debut EP ‘Mein Hood Double’.
Leaning into a groove-laden soundscape, ‘NNLJ’ speaks volumes on optimism and joy, laying down the law with shimmering synths and a pounding backbeat. Inspired by advice given to him from a grandparent, the release sees him double down on the sticky nu-disco sound that he has pioneered across his career so far, calling you onto the dancefloor. Moving from section to section, ‘NNLJ’ rides along the soundwaves with feel and flow, laying down melodies that stick around long after the song is over.
“The song talks about being great and seeking the spotlight so much so that it could attract the jealousy and ill-wishes of others. ‘Nazar na lag jaye’ is something my grandparents would say to me all the time as a kid. It’s sort of like saying, ‘Hey! You are amazing. I wish that no evil gaze ever falls upon you or takes away from your potential.’ It’s funny, though, being an artist and seeking the gaze and the ears of millions of people, only to hope that no one wishes anything negative on me. That might just be part of the job description… Still, the song aims to make you groove, keep the disco vibe alive, and announce my new sound to the world as the final track of my first EP.”
