Award-Winning film company West Egg Media will be releasing its new film Devils on September 6, 2024. Based on real events, “Devils” connects the stories of two men who struggle to get the upper hand as they battle the tragedies of addiction and loss.
The film was produced by John R. Seeley and Sean Werner, also known as D1C3 and Prophetnyc, It was directed by Seeley and Anna Mayo, story written by Seeley and Werner, screenplay written by Anna Mayo, and Co-Produced by Jon Mitchell. Sheldon J. Walker, the films Director of Photography, does a great job creating compelling and impactful scenes for viewers to watch alongside additional visual work by Seeley and Mike Steidley.
The film stars Werner, Seeley, Greg Mays and Janelle Yull, with Carmine Grimaldi making his acting debut in the film. The stars give compelling performances with ability to leave long lasting and memorable impressions by not only its stars, but its additional cast as well.
The film is creative and it targets not only emotional and addictive problems in life, but it also powerfully portrays an outstanding display of how beautiful interracial love can be. Black men being the foundation and strength in a family is not shown enough in film, and Devils refreshingly shows how powerful, strong and influential Jerry is without putting any emphasis on Jerry and Debbie being in an interracial relationship. It is powerful to watch. Jerry is the rock and strength in Johnny and Debbie’s lives, and it hits home in every emotional way.
On the other hand, Sean lives the Wall Street lifestyle we all imagine a well-off person to live. Celebrating opportunities, promotions, and partying day to day. It is a lifestyle one may roll their eyes about when thinking of how the rest of society struggles, but the film shows the darker side of the lifestyle and strips it of its very desirable perks. Devils makes us cheer for Sean while showing the downside of the lifestyle; demonizing those that push others to indulge in its problems. Patrick, played by Jeff Ronan, does a fabulous job personifying the sinister aspects of that lifestyle while being the little voice in Sean’s ear as he steers his actions from his shoulder. Sean’s story is a battle of resisting the devil on your shoulder, and helps influence those that struggle with one everyday.
Though the film can be viewed as a message of hope, Devils is everything but positive. Its music is dark, its story is sharp, and its message is not something that will comfort all of its viewers. Devils is not a story for the underdog, but it is a story of how a person can understand why they should fight back. It does not tell you that you can win, but it does tell you that you can try. Choosing to is left up to us, and that’s what makes Devils so open to connect with. Every single one of us have faced at least one of the characters issues and can see ourselves in them regardless of who we are. That is how Devils effectively wins without struggling to hit its mark.
