WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rapper BGundwn, born Gregory Lamont Jackson Jr., has spent most of his life in motion — bouncing between Washington D.C., the broader DMV area, Atlanta, and Houston. Through every relocation and every stretch of instability, music became the one constant he could count on to make sense of the chaos around him.
“My music is like a diary or a journal,” BGundwn said. “I constantly saw chaos in my life and thought music was the only way I could transmit it in a way people could listen to.”
BGundwn’s path into music began in Atlanta in 2018, when he connected with producer and collaborator KidGenius. By 2020, he was writing music and making beats, and KidGenius helped him record his first track. Those around him quickly recognized his potential as a rapper. But the momentum was cut short when police seized his computer that same year, bringing his creative output to a halt.
He didn’t step back into the booth until 2023, returning to the craft with renewed purpose. His first release under the BGundwn name was the track “CC SHYT,” followed by his debut EP “BG SHYT.” From that point forward, rapping became more than an outlet — it became his passion.
“I felt like I could tell my story through music and reach others who relate,” he said.
Personality, Purpose, and Perseverance
What sets BGundwn apart is the direct line between his lived experience and his lyrics. Having navigated constant transitions across multiple cities and regions, the themes of instability, survival, and self-expression run deep in his music. He wants listeners to understand that his personality and his art are inseparable.
“My story backs up my lyrics,” he said.
Most recently, BGundwn has been building visual momentum with music videos for records “Omni Man” and “Gordon Ramsay,” giving fans a fuller picture of his creative world ahead of his latest project.
His new EP, “eeh!,” is available now across all major streaming platforms. Looking ahead, BGundwn has his sights set on the stage.
“I see myself rocking out on stages and touring the world,” he said, “while meeting the people that support me and show love in all different regions.”
