Carter Skyers is on a mission to make great music and remain himself, and while the mission is not easy, he seems to be doing just fine.
A true Angeleno, Carter seeks sonic influence from Red Hot Chili Peppers and Black Eyed Peas but also other genre benders like The Weeknd, Depeche Mode and Vampire Weekend. When he combines those inspirations with his worldly, real life experiences, the product is something very special.
“I like to pull from my own experiences, as well as the stories from other friends and family,” Carter explained. “With my debut EP [Send A Letter], I found that a lot of it lyrically resembles a larger sense of yearning.”
“I didn’t set out to make a project about yearning or wanting a certain experience, but I did want to make something that felt honest and could get me on my feet,” he added.
There’s a lot in store for Carter, who has surrounded himself with a tight-knit group of likeminded creators to further his musical excellence. He’s got more songs set to release soon, obviously, and he’s been playing many shows in the L.A. area.
However, it’s not all about coming up with new creations; Carter, unlike many other young artists, is also continuously working on perfecting his already released tracks.
“I’ve got one more song on the EP that has yet to be released, and that will come soon,” he explained. “But my team and I are really focusing on promoting the songs that we’ve released thus far.”
“I love the music we are making and it holds its own with any of the ‘big’ songs getting major play today,” Carter elaborated. “I’ve got more music in the hopper and I’m beyond excited to share it, but for right now, I think this first project needs to be heard.”
