Cameron Emmanuel and Lequicia Astrid Share Heartfelt Chemistry In New Debut Single "Favourite Person"

Love has never sounded sweeter. Rising artist Cameron Emmanuel officially steps into the spotlight with the release of his debut Afropop single Favourite Person, a moving duet featuring powerhouse vocalist Lequicia Astrid. What began as a song written in a different season of life has grown into the soundtrack of a true love story that started in the studio and eventually led to a proposal.

Born and raised around music, Cameron Emmanuel grew up listening to timeless artists such as Bee Gees, The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel, influences that helped shape his ear for emotional sound and soulful composition. He picked up the guitar at eight years old and later taught himself piano at sixteen while watching Idols SA. Artists like Khaya Mthethwa, who eventually became a mentor and collaborator, fed his passion and inspired his journey into music creation and performance.

His collaborator on the single, Lequicia Astrid, a former Chatsworth’s Got Talent winner, entered the studio during a deeply personal chapter of her life, grieving the loss of her mother. When Cameron Emmanuel offered her a selection of tracks to choose from, she connected deeply with Favourite Person. She later discovered the song had been written for someone else, yet when they performed it together it became a shared expression of healing, vulnerability and connection. “It was written with someone else in mind. But when we sang it together, it became ours,” she recalls.

Favourite Person is a warm Afropop duet filled with tender harmonies, soft grooves and romantic depth. Their voices glide effortlessly over the instrumental with chemistry that feels natural, sincere and beautifully matched. The song is sweet, melodic and deeply emotive, the kind of track that lingers with the listener long after it ends. Musically, Cameron channels the soulful richness of Toni Braxton, blending it with his modern African sound and heartfelt delivery, positioning himself as an artist capable of crafting music that touches the heart.

The production behind the track tells its own story. Durban based DJ Keys (David Govender) created the foundation of the beat live on TikTok. Listeners watched in real time as the instrumentation was shaped. Days later Cameron and Lequicia were in studio writing lyrics, arranging harmonies and building the song from a simple idea into a life changing collaboration. In the following months, their relationship flourished and Cameron proposed. Lequicia said yes. Today Favourite Person stands not only as a debut single but as a celebration of love, partnership and new beginnings.

The single is already drawing attention online, with early listeners praising its vocal chemistry, relatable message and heartfelt delivery. It beautifully captures the feeling of finding love unexpectedly and cherishing the person who becomes home.

“I want my music to feel real,” Cameron Emmanuel shares. “So many artists chase the next big hit. But I want to write songs that mean something, songs that reflect where we are, who we are with and what we are feeling. Favourite Person did that for us.”

Favourite Person is available now, a soulful release crafted with intention, emotion and undeniable musical connection.
