PG COUNTY, MD – Rising hip-hop artist CAL 301, born Cameron Lacey, is having a defining year in 2025. The 24-year-old rapper, known for his introspective storytelling and relentless work ethic, has been on an upward trajectory that shows no signs of slowing down. With new music, festival performances, and key milestones, CAL 301 is carving out a unique lane in the modern rap landscape—and audiences are beginning to take serious notice.
CAL’s musical journey began in 2016, but the vision truly crystallized during a life-changing experience in Spain during his senior year of high school. Surrounded by the country’s rich culture and creative energy, he realized music wasn’t just a hobby—it was his purpose. That revelation led to his first official release in 2019, “CAL: The Mixtape”, and from there, he’s committed to dropping new music every year, refining his craft with each release.
Fast forward to 2025, and CAL 301 has reached new creative and professional heights. On July 18th, he dropped his latest single “FILTHY,” a high-energy track infused with a gritty ‘90s hip-hop flair and Beastie Boys-inspired bravado. Packed with quotable lyrics, undeniable charisma, and a flow that demands repeat listens, “FILTHY” showcases CAL at his most confident and technically sharp.
“2025 has been a really good year for me so far in terms of music and I hope to carry this momentum into 2026,” says CAL.
Momentum is an understatement. In July, CAL surpassed 20,000 monthly Spotify listeners for the first time in his career—a testament to the growing impact of his sound. Spotify further recognized his rising influence by curating a “This Is CAL 301” playlist, cementing him as an artist worth watching.
Earlier this August, he hit another milestone with his first-ever music festival performance at Maryland’s “Locally Grown” festival, expanding his reach and connecting with fans in a live setting. The performance added another layer to his already dynamic year, proving that CAL’s presence isn’t just felt online—it’s electrifying in person.
Inspired by hip-hop heavyweights like J. Cole, Logic, Kendrick Lamar, Aminé, and Drake, CAL 301 delivers a blend of polished lyricism and raw honesty. His music often reflects his dual life experiences—rooted in Maryland but shaped by global moments—resulting in a unique, genre-respecting voice that continues to evolve.
Looking ahead, CAL plans to release at least three more singles before the end of the year, promising fans a steady stream of new content. But he’s also thinking long-term. He’ll begin writing and recording a new album this fall and winter, with the goal of a Spring 2026 release. Judging by his current pace, the project could be his most ambitious yet.
As the year unfolds, one thing is certain—CAL 301’s journey is only just beginning, and the rest of 2025 promises even more milestones, music, and momentum.
