Urban$ound had the exclusive opportunity to interview Bud Marley about his latest project, “H.I.M,” delving into its inspiration, creative process, and significance within his broader musical journey.
“H.I.M” is your latest single. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the song and what it means to you personally?
Answer: “H.I.M” is actually an album inspired by the hustle in me.
How does “H.I.M” fit into the broader themes or narrative of your upcoming album or project?
Answer: I just recorded a lot of songs, wrote a lot, and then I picked through my best songs. Next thing you know, I’ve got a whole project at hand, so I’m looking forward to my new project HiM 2.
The title “H.I.M” suggests a deeper meaning. Could you elaborate on the significance of this title and how it relates to the message of the song?
Answer: Well, HiM is an acronym that stands for Hustle in Me because everything I do depends on the hustle in me—all work, no play type of mindset.
What was the creative process like for “H.I.M”? Did you face any challenges or breakthrough moments during its production?
Answer: Well, let me see, I pretty much wrote the project in jail. I was seated in county jail for 2 years fighting a case with a million-dollar bail, not able to talk to family by phone because they took away my phone privileges. But faith and hope kept me in good spirits because I did the time, and I let it do me. That’s where I began to craft my writing as an artist.
“H.I.M” has been receiving positive feedback from your fans. How does it feel to see such a response, and what do you hope listeners take away from the song?
Answer: It’s amazing, the feedback. To hear people say you sound different or you reminded me of this person—no cap. I was at my nephew’s football game, and this lady came up to me and asked if I’m Bud Marley. I said yes, lol. It shocked me. She said she listens to my music all the time going to work and that I remind her of Tupac, lol.
Bud Marley’s “H.I.M” project is a testament to his resilience, creativity, and dedication to his craft. With each track, he offers listeners a glimpse into his world, showcasing the hustle within and leaving an indelible mark on the Minneapolis and St. Paul rap scene.
