Los Angeles-based artist BEREN is set to unleash her debut EP, Amateur Musician, on May 16, 2025, with a vibrant release party the following night. Known for her unapologetic motto, “Stay unhinged,” BEREN crafts music for “unhinged magical dark fairy creatures,” embracing the raw, unrestrained essence of human experience. Her EP and the accompanying event promise an immersive dive into her fiercely authentic world.
Amateur Musician is a bold collection of songs born from BEREN’s early creative journey, before she was shaped by music industry norms. “These songs were made before I knew what the ‘right’ way to make music was,” she says. “They’re flawed, emotional, chaotic—exactly how I felt when I wrote them. And I think they will speak to a lot of people who also have storms inside them.” Defying advice from music executives to shelve her initial work, BEREN chose vulnerability over polish, delivering an EP that’s deliberately imperfect—overwritten, underproduced, and deeply personal. The lead single, “Cake,” channels feminine rage in a pop-rock anthem evocative of 2000s icons like Avril Lavigne and All-American Rejects. Another standout, “Her Lullaby,” is a tender ode written to heal a loved one’s inner child.
The release party, set for May 17 at 215 East Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015, kicks off at 8 p.m. and embodies the EP’s “Amateur Musician” theme—a magical, liberated alt-space adorned with hand-drawn red, black, and white visuals. Entry is free with RSVP via Eventbrite, with door tickets and VIP seating available. Attendees can expect a full set from BEREN, including an unannounced new song, alongside performances by background dancers Lindsey Peterson and Taya Egorova, a mesmerizing pole performance by Ingrid Iversa, and guest guitarist Brennan Strawn of Monarch, known for his work with OneRepublic.
