Ben Sefton isn’t just making music; he’s on a mission. A songwriter, producer, and entertainer, Ben combines sharp melodies and clever lyrics with a genuine passion for creating songs that last. Whether it’s a catchy hook that sticks in your head or a heartfelt lyric that resonates, his music feels authentic—because it is.
Since graduating from Selkirk College’s Contemporary Music & Technology Program in 2015, Ben has spent countless hours honing his craft. Inspired by artists like The Beach Boys, Frank Ocean, and Andy Shauf, he’s written hundreds of songs, each one a step closer to perfection. His debut single, Humans, released in 2020, caught the attention of CBC and playlists worldwide, earning glowing reviews like this one from Higher Plain Music: “alt-rock anthem for a modern-day Queen fan.”
More Than Music: A Calling
For Ben, music isn’t just a job—it’s his destiny. “God gives me great songs to share with the world,” he says, describing his belief in a higher purpose for his art. That faith drives everything he does, even when the road gets tough. Like many musicians, Ben struggles with the demands of self-promotion and social media. “I hate the ‘content machine,’ but I love making music that lasts,” he admits. And it’s that love for music—and excellence—that keeps him going. For him, these experiences are reminders of what’s possible when you ask God for something and have the faith to receive it.
What sets Ben apart is his dedication to quality. He doesn’t just write songs; he builds them, carefully layering every lyric and melody. Drawing on the guitar brilliance of John Mayer and Django Reinhardt, combined with the vocal richness of Frank Sinatra and Dallas Green, he crafts music that’s both skillful and sincere.
The Moments That Matter
Ben’s journey has been full of moments that remind him he’s on the right path. There was the time he went to LA to record Humans in his friend Franco Niro’s apartment. On a whim, he visited Griffith Observatory, where he ended up meeting BJ Novak (aka Ryan from The Office) in line for a telescope. A die-hard fan of the show, Ben nervously asked for a photo—and BJ even helped him figure out his phone’s flash.
Then there’s the John Mayer concert in Montreal, where Ben and his friends danced in the back row only to be plucked from the crowd and taken to the front. “We went from $60 seats to $2,000 seats because we were just having fun and being ourselves,” Ben recalls. For him, these experiences are reminders of what’s possible when you stay positive and trust the process.
What’s Next for Ben?
Ben’s ultimate goal? Stardom. And he’s not shy about it. “I AM a global superstar,” he says, not as a boast, but as a belief in his destiny. With a growing catalog of songs and a dedication to creating music that stands the test of time, Ben is poised for big things.
