I ended up engineering on a cheap application called Audacity and engineered a couple friends from school for fun,” he explains.
It was this initial foray into the world of music production that sparked a passion that would consume Omar. “One day one of my friends at the time asked me to make him a beat, while I’ve never made a beat in my life at all, I tried it and truly enjoyed it,” he recounts. “And I think the enjoyment from making the beat sparked the musical genetics in me.” From that moment, Omar embarked on a self-taught journey into the realm of beatmaking, honing his skills and building a reputation that would lead to opportunities to collaborate with artists from all over the country.
But Omar’s musical journey took an unexpected turn in 2022. “In 2022, I made a promise to the Lord to fully dedicate my gift in music to him for his glory after meeting a studio engineer in Annapolis, MD that told me I sounded like a rapper,” he reveals. I tend to think I’m not normal in my patterns of thinking. So when I translate it to music I try to do what isn’t normal in music but still offer a sound to people that they will love, all while keeping my sound,” he shares. But at the heart of Omar’s journey is a deep sense of purpose and a desire to use his platform for good. “My favorite lyric I’ve made so far is in my song titled “Back n Forth” which is a song about going back and forth and fighting against the habits of going from living in the light and living in darkness, which in a spiritual walk with Jesus is called lukewarmness. “Back then I couldn’t hear what he (God) said, and he said to let go of the old me, I step back and left it, ginobli,” he explains, referencing the basketball player Manu Ginobili’s signature move.
