august at night is set to return on June 30th with a new single that explores a different side of his sound entitled ‘KFY’. The track features a dark and brooding instrumental driven by the repeating, hard-hitting bass-line that gives the track its center. Thrown into the mix is a rhythmic hi-hat pattern and punchy kick and snare to keep the movement in the track consistent.
The beat then expands into a synth and acoustic guitar line that serve to bring further presence to the music. august’s vocal performance is atmospheric and reflective, there’s an element of grit despite the gentle tone he takes on that helps to make it so addictive to listen to.
On the new release, the artist shares:
“KFY is intentionally stripped. It was born in a period where I wanted to start fresh. Wanted to get out of the comfy cage I’d built for this music. Sometimes putting together a bassline and letting your voice out can make that difference.”
This release sees august return from a quiet, year-long hiatus. Prior to this, we saw the artist generate some press buzz alongside streaming growth. The artist felt a need to redefine his sound, returning with something that is dark and dynamic and a significant departure from what we’ve heard before.
An artist re-emerging with a new sound is always exciting as a listener. august at night is no different, and this new direction is fresh and catchy, we can’t wait to see what he does next.
