An original short film by the name of American Clay, is taking the film industry by storm with its original storytelling, original cast, and cinematic soundtrack. Based in 1937, at the center of American Clay is the leading character Bernice, a mixed-race, 18 year old girl with a life changing family secret that ultimately changes the course of her life.
Ending up on the wrong side of the tracks in a mysterious sundown town, Bernice is forced to rely on her ancestral intuition, mental strength and pride for survival, in the most tenacious and valiant manner. To ensure that the film had a stellar soundtrack to match the level of intensity, and mystique that is present, producer, co-creator and co-writer Vi City, crafted an original score that gives viewers and listeners a more in depth understanding of the level of creativity poured into this film.
Having found mainstream success working with American Idol, Nelly, and Moneybagg Yo, Vi City leaned on some of his closest industry friends and colleagues to create the highest quality of music you will hear on a film. Vi enlisted the help of Grammy Award Winning mix engineer Jaycen Joshua, vocalist Gabrielle Carreiro (formerly of June’s Diary), Vega Heartbreak, Mike Jay, and violinist Alan of Black Violin. What makes the American Clay soundtrack different from most, is the fact that the opening track features the voice of main character Kaitlyn M. Jackson (Bernice), alongside supporting actress Ella Taylor and Bianca Monique.
The song that stands out the most on this release is the closing track titled “A Mess Is A Mess” featuring Gabby Zeke. The level of emotion and wanderlust Zeke’s voice creates over the Vi City produced track, further narrates the powerful storytelling behind American Clay. American Clay is about redemption, triumph, and breaking generational curses that many of us today can relate to. The soundtrack further sheds light on the importance of bringing real life stories to the forefront of Hollywood, while honoring ancestral history.
