A Conversation With Manny Megz

After years of silence, Underground Lofi/ Boom Bap Producer Manny Megz is back — not with hype, but with intention. Known for his gritty, soul-infused sound and work alongside some of the most respected underground figures in hip-hop, Megz has re-emerged with a refined focus, a sharper sound, and a new business move that’s bigger than just music.

I sat down with him to talk about what sparked the return, how his sound has evolved, and why WAV Kartel might be the next big wave in the producer world.

Q: What made you decide to come back to music after stepping away for a while?

Manny Megz:

Music is just a part of me. There’s no debating it. When I left, I felt soulless. I had a bittersweet relationship with the music industry, but I realized I couldn’t let that dictate my relationship with music itself. There wasn’t a big epiphany at first — but one day I was talking with my lady about the future, and she asked why I ever left music. She never understood it. That moment hit me. That was the turning point.

Q: Are you coming back to prove anything to anyone — or is this about something else now?

Manny Megz:

Nah, nothing to prove. I’m not chasing validation. I’m just trying to push the craft forward, refine my sound, and build something bigger than just me.

Q: Are you more selective about who gets your beats now?

Manny Megz:
In a way, yeah. Anybody can lease a beat — but if you want my stamp on it, if you want my drop, that has to be cleared. I’m not just handing out brand equity for free. I’m not picky about working with people, but I’m extremely intentional about what gets attached to the Manny Megz brand — and especially the WAV Kartel brand.

Q: Are you chasing placements again or just letting them come?

Manny Megz:

Nah, I’m not emailing A&Rs all day. If placements come, cool. But I’m not on that. I’m building WAV Kartel, and that’s the priority. I’m not here begging to get on someone’s project. If it makes sense, it’ll happen naturally.

Q: Any upcoming projects we should know about?

Manny Megz:

I got some collabs on the way — can’t say much yet. Beat packs too. But really, it’s about laying the foundation. WAV Kartel is the move. That’s where all the energy’s going.

Q: What does success look like for you now?

Manny Megz:

Building a massive brand. Creating something that outlives me. This chapter’s not about being the hottest producer. It’s about ownership, consistency, and legacy.
