Jonas Brothers gave Madison Square Garden the first taste of their next single, reviving the emo-leaning sound that shaped some of their earliest records.
Jonas Brothers debuted the unreleased song “Listen When Sad” during the opening night of The Burning Up Tour All Over Again at Madison Square Garden in New York on August 20. The performance gave fans an early preview of the track before its official studio release on August 28, 2026.
According to Rolling Stone, Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas introduced the song during the second half of the concert after revisiting material from across their career. The new track arrived as one of the biggest surprises of the first of three consecutive Madison Square Garden shows.
“Listen When Sad” also reconnects the trio with longtime producer John Fields for their first studio work together since 2009. Fields helped shape the sound of the group’s self-titled album, A Little Bit Longer and Lines, Vines and Trying Times, making the reunion particularly fitting for a song the band says channels the emo and alternative music that influenced them growing up.

The debut came inside a show deliberately designed to look backward and forward at the same time. The opening act recreated the spirit of the group’s original Burning Up era with songs including “That’s Just the Way We Roll,” “S.O.S.,” “Lovebug” and “Burnin’ Up,” before the brothers shifted into newer material, solo songs and fan-requested cuts.
The Madison Square Garden run serves as the launch point for The Burning Up Tour All Over Again, which has expanded into a 45-city North American trek following the response to the initial New York dates. The wider tour is scheduled to begin September 25 in Boston and continue through December 21 in Newark, with select appearances from Magnus Ferrell, Franklin Jonas and All Time Low.
For Jonas Brothers, “Listen When Sad” gives the nostalgia-heavy tour a new piece of music built from the same influences that defined an earlier chapter of their career. Fans at Madison Square Garden heard it first, while the studio version is now set to arrive worldwide on August 28.
