There’s a chill that runs through the very word Derangement  and it perfectly captures the heart of Virga Šikšniūtė’s new existential drama starring musician and filmmaker Paul Pedana in his most haunting performance yet. The film’s title has just been officially revealed, and if early whispers from the production are any indication, Derangement promises to be a deeply human journey into madness, memory, and the strange poetry of survival.

Directed by Virga Šikšniūtė who, as Pedana joking said, “holds the reins not just of the film, but of everything at home too”  Derangement follows a solitary, homeless man wandering through fractured landscapes of snow, ruin, and hallucination. His only companion: Charlie, a battered teddy bear who becomes both confidant and mirror of his collapsing psyche.

The story, inspired by existential cinema of the 1970s and filtered through a vintage lens, plays like a visual poem. A man in search of treasure finds instead the truth about his own past a revelation that re-frames every step of his journey. With its hypnotic cinematography and stripped-down storytelling, Derangement explores what it means to lose everything and to discover, too late, what was real all along.

Shot in English and currently in post-production, Derangement is described by its creators as a “cinematic fever dream about freedom, guilt, and love.” Visually, it shifts from grimy city streets to blinding snowstorms, mirroring the psychological unraveling of its protagonist. The film will be released in the middle of 2026.

Pedana, known for his emotional depth on screen and stage, delivers a performance that balances fragility with fury his dialogue with Charlie, at times absurd, at times heartbreaking, becomes the film’s beating heart.

The title announcement comes ahead of an official trailer drop in the coming weeks, teasing what could be one of the year’s most introspective indie releases.

If the early footage and whispers are any clue, Derangement won’t just be watched,  it’ll be felt.
