Tia Ola has already made significant strides in the modeling and acting industries. Her journey began with a chance encounter with an online documentary about Baby Phat, the iconic fashion line of the 2000s. “What really got me into modeling and acting was this documentary I watched about the brand,” Tia recalls. “It focused on Kimora Lee Simmons, who was not only a successful designer but also modeled for her own line. I had never seen a designer do both, and it clicked for me—if I wanted to design, maybe learning to model was a smart move too.”
Around the same time, Tia watched Baz Luhrmann’s biopic “Elvis,” featuring Austin Butler. His portrayal resonated deeply with her, especially his admission of being shy and how acting classes helped him break out of his shell. “I could totally relate to him,” she says. “His story motivated me to push myself, and that’s when I decided to sign up for both modeling and acting classes.”
Tia’s ongoing training has significantly influenced her performances. “Taking these classes has really helped me level up in both areas,” she explains. “I’ve learned new techniques and strategies that I hadn’t thought of before. The best part is that these classes keep pushing me to grow and improve at a consistent rate.”
One of her most memorable milestones was debuting at New York Fashion Week. “Stepping onto the expansive runway for the first time, hearing the music sync perfectly with my steps, was incredible,” she shares. “When I reached the end and saw all the photographers snapping away, I felt like a total supermodel! It was an amazing experience.”
Tia’s hard work paid off when she won the Plitzs NYFW KIDS Fashion Democracy show. “I was so proud of myself,” she reflects. “When I first started modeling, the runway was my biggest barrier. Winning proved to me that putting in the work truly pays off.”
Preparation for different modeling jobs varies for Tia. For runway shows, she focuses on the attitude she wants to showcase, practicing facial expressions and the style of her walk. “For commercial modeling, I concentrate on my appearance and research the client to know what vibe and poses they’re looking for,” she explains.
Tia has enjoyed working with numerous designers, each of whom has empowered her in unique ways. “It’s hard to pick a favorite; every designer has made me feel confident and given me outfits that let me show off different sides of myself,” she says.
In addition to modeling, Tia is a KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, a role she cherishes for the opportunity it provides to review films and conduct interviews within the entertainment industry. “My favorite part must be the interviews,” she admits. “I’ve learned so much from talking to actors and directors.”
Balancing her modeling and acting career with interests in human biology, coding, and entrepreneurship requires meticulous planning. Tia creates detailed timetables and to-do lists to stay organized. “Sometimes, I find ways to combine my passions, merging fashion and acting with medicine, coding, and entrepreneurship,” she explains.
An important initiative for Tia is “Confident Smiles,” which promotes good oral health habits among youth. Her motivation stems from her personal struggles with dental health early in life. “I want to help prevent other kids and teens from going through the same struggles I did,” she emphasizes.
In a competitive industry, Tia maintains her self-confidence by reminding herself that everyone is on their unique path. “When I’m at a casting, I tell myself that if a job is meant for me, it won’t pass me by,” she shares. This mindset has helped her cope with rejections and remain grounded.
Tia has faced challenges throughout her journey, including wardrobe malfunctions and safety concerns. “I remind myself that I’m only human,” she says. “I make mistakes, but I learn from them.” This resilience has been crucial as she navigates the ups and downs of the industry.
Looking ahead, Tia envisions a bright future in fashion and entertainment. “I dream of doing big campaigns for top designers and acting alongside my idols,” she states. Most importantly, she hopes to inspire a new generation to chase multiple passions and succeed through hard work.
For aspiring models and actors, Tia advises, “Have the confidence to pursue your dreams, regardless of what others say. Surround yourself with a strong support system and remember that your goals are achievable!”
Staying grounded amidst the excitement of her career is essential for Tia. “I know how blessed I am,” she reflects. “I appreciate every opportunity and stay present in the moment.”
