Marc Ricks, hailing from Waxahachie, Texas, has always had a profound connection to music. Singing since his early years and writing lyrics for the past 15, he took a significant leap in January by penning his own songs. His inspiration to dive into the music industry stems from a desire to create family-friendly music in an era where boundaries in lyrical content are constantly being tested. Marc aims to produce songs that resonate with audiences while maintaining a safe and relevant narrative.
Marc’s music teeters between Christian country and traditional country, yet he hasn’t definitively settled on one. His instrumental prowess lies in playing the rhythm acoustic guitar, with a preference for the Larrivee brand. Influenced by the likes of Luke Combs and Blake Shelton, Marc strives to craft songs with that elusive “it” factor. If a piece doesn’t meet his standards, he isn’t afraid to set it aside and revisit it with fresh ears later.
His journey in the music industry, though still in its nascent stages, has been promising. Marc’s first EP, “Showcase,” released in February, garnered positive reviews and was picked up by 350 terrestrial stations nationwide. Despite facing challenges with live performances and band personnel, the positive reception of his EP, especially the unexpected popularity of certain tracks, hints at a breakthrough on the horizon.
A particularly memorable moment in Marc’s career is intertwined with a personal ordeal. He wrote “Didn’t Expect This Today,” a song about a motorcyclist finding faith and facing an accident. Remarkably, just four months later, Marc experienced a motorcycle accident eerily similar to the one described in his song. Surviving the accident with significant injuries, Marc found himself reflecting on the parallels between his life and his music. This incident spurred him to write a sequel to “Didn’t Expect This Today,” which he plans to release soon.
Currently, Marc is working on several projects. He’s preparing his second music video for “Didn’t Expect This Today” and hopes to begin work on his next EP or LP soon. His first music video, “Memories Won’t Stay,” is already available on YouTube.
Marc Ricks’ journey is one of resilience and dedication, driven by a desire to create meaningful, family-friendly music. As he continues to evolve as an artist, his story and songs are sure to inspire many.
