ZZAY is a great artist. She’s also a great friend, it seems, based on her track “Homegirls and Hennessy,” which details how her friendships changed as the years went on.
“I feel that as I’ve gotten older, I have learned that some friendships are better off from a distance,” ZZAY said. “I’ve learned in life that there are people you can run to when life gets real and stuff gets hard, and there are people you can only run to when you’re looking for fun or ready to party.”
“Those people can be in your life, you just have to love them from a distance,” she added.
The Southern California native’s loyalty runs so deep that even if she sees someone linking up with an enemy or non-associate, she gets offended.
“That’s why I wrote this song…to showcase that in this world of women and female friendships, it’s not always rainbows and spa dates,” ZZAY said. “Being a good friend or good homegirl takes work.”
Some friends that ZZAY can certainly count on are the fellow female creatives in Bruxas Brew, a trio that is set to release their debut project in October. As for her, she also plans to keep dropping, making music, having fun and living life, because that’s what she knows how to do best.
“It’s hard to make music you love when the world makes it feel like a job,” she said. “It’s hard to make content that relates to you when social media makes you feel like you’re not doing enough…the goal is to stay inspired, consistent and make music that I love.”
