Where does one begin when talking about Spirits Birthday? The Southern California native grew up listening to a vast swath of artists — from Marilyn Manson to Pharrell to Yung Lean — and combines his different tastes with his unique upbringing to make great music.
“Growing up with a dad that was a Jewish pastor and my mom being a singer, I felt like I was always under [some sort of] religious veil as a kid, and listening to Marilyn Manson inspired a feeling of liberation for me to be whatever I want,” Spirits Birthday said.
Spirit’s musical development started early; he learned to play the drums during elementary school and as he got older, he became a “drama club and band camp kid,” just like one of his primary influences was.
“To me, Drake is a multidimensional figure as far as music goes,” he explained. “[We both acted] and I think Drake is the best actor-crossover rapper to ever do it…I see a lot of myself in him.”
When it comes to Spirit’s discography itself, he exhibits a passion for what he likes to call “artistic contrast in a charming way.”
“It’s like candy,” he said. “My Music is sour, sweet, dark, colorful, wet, soft and hardcore all at once.”
Carson, California’s self-starting starlet is far from finished with his mission to share what goes on in his artistic world. He’s got a single titled “Duppy!” slated to release on June 6, and while he did say he is in the process of working on his first album Sour!, he would not confirm a release date for the project.
Simply put, there is really no artist like Spirits Birthday. Production, lyrics, delivery; it’s all there, combined into one spectacularly unique creator.
