Cadeem LaMarr is himself through and through; after being bullied growing up for having a name that was “weird, or whatever,” he grew to realize that his name was cool and unique, so he reclaimed it and got to work on his creative endeavors. The Prince George County, Maryland native recently relocated to Baltimore and is well on his way to the release of his first project Deem N’ Bass Vol. 1.
Of course, before the project’s release, Cadeem is giving fans a taste test of what’s to come on “365,” a self-produced, self-engineered banging house track that serves as a gateway back into his love of music.
“I’ve been making music for some time and to be honest, I fell out of love with it a bit during the pandemic and started doing other things,” Cadeem said. “I started woodworking, graphic design…just anything to keep myself busy.”
“But once things opened up a bit more and I started going to shows, I remembered how much I love making and sharing music,” he elaborated. “I realized that I had been making music a ‘job’ and lost sight of what got me producing in the first place.”
As Cadeem so eloquently puts it, he draws his influences “from plenty of different wells of music” due to the music that was played for him as a youth; his mother raised him on Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Patrice Rushen, his father “drilled” Funkadelic and Bone Thugz-N-Harmony into his brain, and it was all topped off by his older brother introducing him to the likes of Timbaland, Clipse, Missy Elliott and Drake, a genre shift Cadeem says has changed his mind forever.
The man who genuinely loves “getting [his] hands dirty in different fields” says music is only the tip of the iceberg. Already handling all of engineering, artwork, video editing and merchandise designs, Cadeem has even more on the schedule for the near future, including DJing more shows in the U.S. and overseas.
However, at the end of the day, Cadeem LaMarr is a simple man with a simple vision.
“[I want to] push myself creatively every time I open up my laptop to make music and make plenty of memories with friends and family,” he said. “My goal was to make a project that was ‘me’ in its purest form without outside influences, and I’m sure I achieved that.”
