As the 2000s have progressed, the area between singing and rapping has grayed considerably, and the recent influx of alternative-influenced hip-hoppers shows that the trend doesn’t look to be going away. And although you may not know of him yet, Tm47 is soon to be at the forefront of that movement.
Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, Tm47 credits his home as a major influence on all of his work, but also cites three different musicians as ones who help inspire him sonically.
“Capital Steez is a big one…I used to want to rap like him until I realized he was on a completely different level than me. When it comes to lyrics, I don’t think there’s a rapper alive who compares,” he said. “Brakence is also a big one for me…he definitely inspired me to take chances and start singing in my music, and the last one I’ll name is Mac Miller, but that one I think is pretty self-explanatory.”
The Brakence influence is felt throughout Tm47’s latest track “Rainbow Road,” which finds the Pro Era rap-lover trading in bars for melodies à la Tame Impala or The Weeknd.
On the other side of the microphone, Tm47 enlisted his “dawg” Levi Cox to engineer the track; the two had previously worked on Tm47’s last album, and the artist himself says that he “would not sound good at all” if it wasn’t for Cox’s assistance. Production was handled by RedMosk, who has a few other cuts with Tm47 in the vault, with “Rainbow Road” being the first of the collaborations to be released.
As for his next moves, Tm47 is sticking to his guns and putting out more music that gets better and better with each drop. He’s got new stuff coming out soon mixed with songs “from the vault” that will surely paint an even clearer picture of who exactly this audacious Arizona artist truly is.
