With the same punky-edge and energy to her writing as we’ve come to expect, Dana Luna is set to release her new single “Mascara” on the 12th of May. Opening with a creatively reversed guitar line, tension-building drums and a bass line that outlines her signature vocal style, the track is sure to entice you from the off. A cross between the cheekier elements of pop singing paired with the more combative and gritty elements of every great punk vocalist.
The track then becomes an energetic chant that gets the listener ready to jump out of their seat and scream the words with their friends. Throughout the track are elements of youthful exuberance, perception of self with just the right sprinkle of young love’s wistfulness. All of these come together to produce a catchy, sing-a-long anthem.
On the new release, Dana Luna says, “’Mascara’ was written in session at Mad Fox in Manchester with a little help from my producer Tayte, I knew I wanted at least one song on the album that was more reflective of growing up in Manchester & my old friends than on any previous relationship. It was the second to last song of the five (on the EP) that we recorded & I went verse by verse breaking down ideas from my Instagram & Snapchat memories. When we were a lot younger we used to scheme our way into clubs & bars with any given method we could think up, Mascara is a feel good nostalgic record about that first taste of freedom.”
In her early twenties, Manchester based Dana Luna, grew up with a hunger for music. She was always checking out the latest band and gaining influence from them. In the latter part of Covid she decided to write & record her own EP ‘Sorry, Did You Call Me ExTra?’ which was lauded by fans and tastemakers alike. She has a real passion for being an independent artist and being in control of all the content she’s able to produce. Spending time perfecting the art and, most importantly, doing it her own way.
With the EP on the way and Dana Luna’s style being this infectious, listener’s should be ready to enjoy the project start to finish and find some new summer favourites along the way.
